Unleash your dog's potential
Dog Training
DogJoy believes in helping people build their best relationships with their dogs through positive methods, play and other reinforcements. We offer group training classes, where dogs can learn to focus and be around other dogs, behavior modification, and private lessons tailored to both you and your dog!
We use modern, proven, positive reinforcement training methods grounded in learning theory. We are strong believers in marker training and in building a relationship with your dog by learning what truly motivates him in life – praise, toys, food, a ride in your truck, etc. Training YOU how to train your dog is a big part of what we do at DogJoy.
Together we’ll create a thinking dog, a dog that makes good decisions on his own without you having to micromanage his every move. We’ll find the training method that works best with your dog’s personality and learning style and teach you how to easily implement it into your daily routine. Our goal is to create a respectful and loving relationship between you and your canine companion.
Having a well-behaved dog enables you to include your canine companion in your daily activities and in turn gives your dog the opportunity to become more socialized to the world around them, and this continued exposure to new things reduces the risk of unwanted behavior, including aggression.

The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Class is designed to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start.
At the end of this course we will administer the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Test. Upon passing the test, you get an application to send to the AKC for enrollment in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program. All dogs are welcome to participate in the program including pure breeds and mixed breeds.
Your puppy will also receive the AKC S.T.A.R Puppy Medal and you and your puppy will be listed in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy records and more!
The key to having a well-mannered adult dog is to start training at an early age. You can do a little work now to prevent some big problems from turning up later. Socializing your puppy to the world around her and teaching her some basic cues should be your top priority. This class provides you and your puppy with the knowledge and information that you will need to obtain those goals.
GROUP CLASS
FOUNDATION SERIES
COURSE DURATION: YOUR CHOICE!
CLASS DURATION: 1 HOUR
$59/single class, $384 for 7pk
Our Foundation Series was designed for adolescent and adult dogs of any age with little to no training. Level 1 include a series of seven classes, plus a test and certification day, when you and your dog are ready to show off all your hard work!
Level 1 concentrates on teaching you how to get (and KEEP) your dog’s focus on you, first at home, and then in more distracting environments, as you and your dog learn to work better together as a team.
You can choose the topics you’d like more help on and drop into a single class, or you can purchase a package and attend all of them over time, at your convenience. Classes can be taken in any order and repeated as many times as needed. Classes will change according to the needs of the dog/handler teams in attendance.
Even though you may have attended other training classes, we promise you’ll walk away with more from these classes than you ever thought, and you and your dog will learn that positive training is fun and rewarding. This series will help you build a strong foundation of skills, forming an even better bond with your dog.
Our Foundation Series includes instruction in problem solving, canine body language (what your dog is really saying) and overall proper canine manners. Not only do we work on helping you teach your dog to be attentive and focus on you, but we work with you to teach your dog to be reliable on everything from sit, down, and stand to staying in place when asked. We also work with you to help your dog relax and remain calm while around other dogs and distractions, not jump up, how to walk nicely on leash with you, come when called, and so much more! Check out the class options on the scheduling page for more details on each class in this series.
GROUP CLASS
REACTIVE ROVER
COURSE DURATION: 6 WEEKS
CLASS DURATION: 3 HRS 30 MINS FOR WEEK 1, 1 HR 30 MINS FOR WEEKS 2-6
$429
This course is designed for dogs that pull, lunge, growl, and bark at other animals and people while on leash, or dogs who are fearful. These dogs may not be able to attend other group classes yet, so this class is designed just for them. Through this series of classes, you’ll learn to keep your dog’s attention around distractions, reduce your dog’s reactivity and anxiety, and make outings relaxing for both you and your dog.
Our Reactive Rover class aims to help you teach your dog to take control of his own reactions to the world around him, and focus on you instead. Using positive reinforcement and communicating with your dog in a way they can understand, we’ll equip you with the tools to make stressful walks a thing of the past! Reactive Rover is your chance to turn walks into the bonding activity that they are meant to be. You deserve to have a positive relationship with your dog and regular walks are a great way to do that when your dog is calm and focused on you.
Advanced Courses
PREREQUISITE: GOOD MANNERS OR EQUIVALENT TRAINING IN A GROUP ENVIRONMENT.
GROUP CLASS
SUBLIME MANNERS
COURSE DURATION: 4 WEEKS
CLASS DURATION: 1 HOUR
$49 PER 1 HOUR SESSION
This course picks right up where our Good Manners course ended. After learning your foundation skills in Good Manners, Sublime Manners works on helping you turn those basic skills into more real-life skills by showing you how to generalize and use them in your everyday life with your dog. We work on proofing the behaviors you’ve already starting teaching your dog, guiding you on how to add more duration, distance and distractions to help your dog be more reliable in all kinds of environments and challenges, just like the real world throws at you.
We work on improving those leash skills even more, work on tougher recalls (because you know you need to!), and focus on more challenging stays in the types of situations you need your dog to really listen in. We also focus on teaching your dog how to be more reliable on those leave- its, so that you don’t have to tug on that leash to get them to respond. We’ll talk about fading food out of the training process and show you how to use other reinforcers, like toys and play, as rewards. We’ll also work on a drop-it cue, so that those fetch and tug games will be a lot more enjoyable. And finally, we’ll work on directional cues, preparing you for our more advanced off leash class!
